The busy summer travel season is right around the corner, providing exciting opportunities for newsrooms and sales teams!

The travel industry is slowly building back as the world continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Americans are looking to get away after months of cautious behavior and staying at home.

An Expedia Group survey found that: “people value travel and personal time more than ever, with 78% of respondents being most interested in taking frequent short trips.” The survey also found that 81% of respondents plan to take at least one vacation in the next six months.

In addition, the downsizing trend that struck the travel and hospitality industry in 2020 may be over as hiring in the field is set to rebound. The World Travel & Tourism Council predicts “total jobs across the U.S. travel & tourism sector will rise above pre-pandemic levels at 16.72 million jobs.”

According to Deloitte’s 2022 U.S. Travel Outlook, the return of international travel is slow but likely to increase as “Americans who could only travel domestically for two years opt for long-awaited trips abroad.” Deloitte’s report also cautions that the hesitancy to travel among an older U.S. demographic could delay the recovery. It says, “36% of Americans older than 55 plan to travel compared to 45% of 18-to-34-year-olds.
